Bergerac is the 2nd largest market town in the Dordogne (after Périgueux) and whilst quiet in the winter, during the rest of the year it springs into life with a wide variety of restaurants and cafés spilling out onto the cobbled streets and alleyways.
It has a covered market, where you can bargain for truffles and also a large open air market near the church.
The former port has been restored and the views over the river are stunning.

The old town winds up from the river and its twisting lanes offer beautiful spaces, surrounded by late-medieval houses and stunning flower beds.

Bergerac is renowned for being the home of Cyrano de Bergerac, and there are several statues to be found, the most recent being outside the Eglise St- Jacques.
